It's a turn-based RPG from a studio with no revenue of its own, and the same bug that crashed healing back in 2024 still shows up in the latest reviews.

The spell that sends the player back to the title screen

On July 8, 2024, two people wrote separate reviews about the same flaw in Drekirökr - Dusk of the Dragon. Anyone who reached the game's first boss found that healing their own character in combat crashed the program every time they tried; they pushed through several attempts, crossed into the open world, and it froze again the moment an ordinary enemy used an ability. The second person, that same day, described the same trigger by a different route: healing threw an error, and interacting with certain objects in the environment dropped the game just as reliably.

The store sums up the premise as a crossing of fantasy and science fiction: millions of years after a devastating incident, in a world much like our own, humanity struggles to survive the planet's own evolution, caught between dimensions and the passage of time, fighting with magic, sword, and knowledge to grasp the true face of this world. The project is signed by Ragnarökr Project itself, which also publishes the game.

The visuals reproduce the low resolution of old handheld and home consoles, with tactical turn-based combat against hordes of enemies and a world that shifts as time passes. The game arrived on August 9, 2023, and remains in early access — which helps explain why healing, for one person, is routine, and for another, the end of the session.

A build where healing, at last, worked

Whoever finished all of the early-access content in October 2025 didn't see a single crash, and healing worked without a hitch from start to finish — running into only small slips, like text boxes out of place and a group of fairies that wouldn't vanish after being beaten. In December 2025, someone who praised the soundtrack and the humor in the characters' dialogue also singled out the nostalgic feel of the turn-based combat and the option to switch to a wait-based pace, to vary the rhythm of a fight.

In January 2026, someone who called the game a homemade RPG saw in it the simple, fun kind that recalls the amateur browser games of years past. In February, the most generous review of all made a point of drawing a line: it called the project ambitious for a team with no revenue of its own and suggested the crew would go further with some financial return for their work. Read carefully, the praise is also a warning — the stamina behind the game depends on carrying on without earning anything for it.

When healing crashes all over again

The improvement reported in October 2025 didn't last. On April 21, 2026, someone who praised the game's looks also described crashes on almost any action — not just healing. It's the kind of failure that throws you back to the loading screen at the very moment you needed the command most, in the middle of a fight that was already going badly.

The most recent review in the batch, from July 3, 2026, came from someone who already knew the game on Steam and went to try it again on GOG — same result, it crashes right in the first fight, after a stretch in early access long enough to raise an eyebrow.

Even so, the harshest review in the batch doesn't slam the door for good: the player who stopped at the first boss, in July 2024, said they'd gladly come back if the bug were ever fixed. Healing, in this game, may still be the riskiest gesture there is — and there are still those waiting for the build where it works.

For those who can stand losing to the game itself, not just to the enemy

Drekirökr is for you if you like following a small project trying to rebuild the turn-based RPGs of another era, willing to take on a build that's still under construction — and to lose, every so often, to the program itself rather than to the enemies on screen. It also suits anyone who has already run into the same game on another store and wants to see whether time has fixed anything.

It's not for anyone who wants to sit down for a session without nasty surprises. The same healing command that crashed in July 2024 kept turning up in the latest complaints, and there's no telling which build will load on screen — the one that works, or the one that crashes.
